Introduction

Television arrived in Edmonton on October 25th, 1954 when CFRN signed on at 3:00 pm on Channel 3. CFRN was Alberta's second TV station, as Calgary's CHCT-TV had signed on 17 days earlier.

CBXT on Channel 5 joined the airwaves in 1961, followed by its French counterpart CBXFT 9 years later.

Cable arrived in 1971, and Dr. Charles Allard's CITV began broadcasting in 1974 (now part of the CanWest Global empire).

CKEM started out as Craig Media's A-Channel in 1997 before becoming Citytv, a CHUM affiliate, in 2005.
