It's all in the location.
Florence, Arizona is a small town of 17,000 halfway between Tucson and Phoenix. Gilbert "Gibby" Meneses Salazar Sr. owned and operated Gibby's Inn there from 1964 to 2001. The restaurant and bar had been in his family since the 1940s.
Now -- what sets this family-run hole in the wall apart from countless others is ... the clientele.
Over the years the eatery has seen Paul Newman hanging his underwear over a ceiling vent, James Garner making an emergency pit stop and Wilford Brimley stopping by once a week to eat a bowl of his favorite Quaker oatmeal. Why you ask?
Florence, Arizona was the film location for "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean," "Murphy's Romance" and happens to be near where Brimley lives.
So the next time you're dining in the middle of nowhere, keep your eyes peeled.
Gibby Salazar died January 3rd, 2006 at the age of 69.
