A suspicious death on the Enoch First Nation kept Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP detachment busy on March 19th, 2011.

Police were called to a home on the reserve southwest of Edmonton after a deceased male was found outside.

The man was found sometime around 7:30 a.m. by "some people who were associated to the residence," RCMP Sgt. Jim Martin said.

"They came to the home in the morning where they found the body lying outside of the residence," he said.

"The death is suspicious, but we won't know if foul play is involved until the body goes before the medical examiner."

Police said they knew the man's identity but wouldn't release any further information about him, or whether or not he lived in the home.

Martin also wouldn't comment on if those who lived in the home were known to police.

One early media report indicated there had been a disturbance at the home.

"At this point, all the evidence that we have indicates that it is a suspicious death," he said. "Everything is still early in the investigation."

After an autopsy was completed on March 21st, RCMP identified the man as 19-year-old Myron Dakota Cutknife, a resident of the Enoch Reserve.

Cutknife's death was determined to be a homicide. Police withheld cause of death.

"We are still investigating all avenues of this case," Sgt. Jim Martin said.

"We can't identify if we have any suspects in mind, but we are still at the stage where we are looking for information from the general public about this case."

Investigators think he knew the owners of the home where he was found.

Mother makes appeal

On March 19th, 2012 – exactly a year after Lina Cutknife found her son lying dead on the driveway of her Enoch home – a still-grieving mother made an appeal to the public for clues to his murder.

A year earlier, Myron Cutknife had gone out to attend a round dance with plans to later go to the River Cree casino. What happened to him after that remains a mystery.

"He was a father, a son, a brother, and a friend to many," Lina Cutknife told Global Edmonton as she read from a prepared statement.

"His life was suddenly cut short and his family is still looking for answers. It's been a year and his killer or killers are still out there.

"He was reported to have gone to a party at an unknown location and was never seen alive again.

"Someone out there has some information. Maybe they saw the make or model of the vehicle he was in. Maybe they were at the same party," Lina said.

Cutknife's cause of death has yet to be released and RCMP have made no further comments in connection with the case.

Those with information about Cutknife's death were asked to contact Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP at 780-968-7267, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at www.tipsubmit.com. Tips can also be text messaged.
