Police continue to investigate Edmonton's ninth homicide of the year, the fifth in three weeks.

Just before 1:15 a.m. June 11th, 2010, patrol officers from north division were called to a main-floor unit of the four-storey New Haven Estates apartment complex in Claireview about a noisy party.

About a half-hour later, at 1:49 a.m., police were called back to suite 104D at 13660 38 Street – this time about a report of an assault causing bodily harm.

EMS took a 51-year-old man to hospital where he succumbed to reported stabbing injuries at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and everyone present at the party was taken in for questioning. Early reports indicated one male in particular was being held in custody.

Homicide detective Don Curle said investigators believe the assailant was invited into the suite as a guest, and that there was no indication the incident was gang-related.

"Sometime during the get-together, things obviously got out of hand and one male was fatally injured," Curle said.

Police indicated alcohol may have been a factor.
