deadmonton 2009 - august crime report

Early in the morning of August 8th, a 30-year-old woman was walking in north central Edmonton when she was approached by a man in a truck who offered her a ride.

She accepted, got into the vehicle and was driven to an industrial area in southeast Edmonton where she was assaulted and sexually assaulted.

The woman managed to escape and flagged down a passing motorist. She was taken to hospital where she was treated and released.

Police described the suspect as a Caucasian male, 45-55 years old, at least 6-feet tall with a medium build. He has a scruffy beard, reddish hair showing some grey. He wore a black ball cap, very thick glasses and said his name was Brian.

Police made up a composite image of the truck.

It was described as an older model North American regular-cab pickup truck, medium blue in colour with a white stripe down the side. The interior was maroon.

Distinguishing features include running boards, louvers (slats) over the rear window, and a tank in the box of the truck (similar to a fuel tank).

Police did not release the exact location where the woman was picked up, nor the time of the assault, for investigative purposes, Sexual Assault Section Staff Sargent Brian Readman said.

26-year-old Lance Ricky Cutarm was serving a 4-year 8-month sentence for aggravated assault. He was set free on statutory release but did not report to his parole officer as directed.

Cutarm, born January 14th, 1983, was described as a native male, 5-feet 11-inches (180 cm), 183 lbs (83 kg) with black hair and brown eyes.

His most telling feature is a tattoo on his neck of the word "Infamous."

Police consider Cutarm violent. His previous convictions include assault, manslaughter, aggravated assault, parole violation, and possession of a controlled substance.
