Treana Theresa Carlson, 64, died from head trauma on April 22nd, 2009.

Carlson was Edmonton's seventh homicide victim of the year.

Michel Victor Lamoureux, 50, was charged first-degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Emergency services were called to a home at 11914 81 Street at 5:50 a.m. on April 22nd, 2009 responding to a report of a person in distress.

Paramedics en route were told by officers at the scene they weren't needed as the subject of the call had already died.

The homicide unit was called in, followed by a team of forensic staff.

Police took one man, said to be a relative of the victim, into custody for questioning. It was believed he had made the 911 call to police.

The victim was described initially by sources as a 65-year-old woman.

Neighbours told media that three people (a grandmother, her son-in-law and a granddaughter) had moved into the home about two weeks prior.

As the morning wore on came word that police were treating the death as a murder.

"It looks very suspicious in there," homicide Det. Bill Clark advised media.

"Right now we're just trying to contact people ... different individuals who either reside here or know the people that lived here," he continued.

"We're treating it as a suspicious death. It does appear to be a homicide, but we until we do a full autopsy we won't confirm that but that's the way we're treating it at this time.

"I'm not going to be releasing any information on the victim as far as sex, age or anything like that at this time because we have to notify next of kin and we are taking steps of doing that," Clark said.

"It's very suspicious inside, and we're leaning toward a homicide, but again we don't confirm that until we know an injury and that type of thing.

"It's just too early in the investigation to say anything right now."

An autopsy later determined that Treana Theresa Carlson, 64, died from head trauma.

On April 26th, 2009 police charged Michel Victor Lamoureux, 50, with first-degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Carlson was Lamoureux's mother-in-law.
