Homicide detectives continue to investigate the suspicious death of Albert (Paschal) Lafontaine, 60, who died of head injuries on October 24th, 2008.

Lafontaine was found behind the Edmonton Remand Centre along 97th Street near 105th Avenue.

Emergency services were called to Mary Burlie Park at 2:29 a.m. on the 24th responding to a report of a sick or injured sixty-year-old man. He was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital but died en route.


Homicide detectives were called out and two persons of interest were interviewed at the scene.

"There was nobody around and there is a small amount of blood at the scene and that's all we have at this time," Insp. Teri Uhryn said.


An autopsy conducted Friday was unable to determine Albert (Paschal) Lafontaine's exact cause of death. The medical examiner revealed Lafontaine had suffered head injuries.


Homicide detectives continue to investigate the case as a suspicious death and are conducting more interviews. They've asked anyone with information that could help the investigation to call Edmonton police at 780-423-4567, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at www.tipsubmit.com

Lafontaine's case joins three others in 2008 in which murder charges have not been laid.


On April 26th Alex Pinzauti, 19, was found dead on a Garneau neighbourhood doorstep. While police ruled his death as non-criminal, friends and relatives of the man have lingering questions.


On June 29th fifty-year-old Andrew Rademacher was discovered lying in a pool of blood near an abandoned home near 95th Street and 107th A Avenue. Rademacher remained in critical condition until July 4th when he succumbed to his injuries. 40-year-old Julie Starr was charged with aggravated assault.


On September 5th Fabian DeLorme, 44, was beaten with golf clubs and died two days later. Two men were charged with aggravated assault. Police said the charges may be upgraded at a later time.
