Man stabbed in Inglewood

For the second time in 24 hours, a knife brought Edmonton police to the Inglewood neighbourhood.

At about 3:00 p.m. on July 7th, 2007 police were called to the Windsor Arms apartment building at 11143 124 Street concerning a report that a man had been slashed across the neck.

The man, whose name was withheld, was rushed to Royal Alexandra Hospital in serious condition and was expected to survive his injuries.

A blood trail on the 3-storey walk-up's front sidewalk extended to the street curb where the man was lying when police arrived. Inside the building, a blood-stained apartment suite was being examined by officers.

It was believed both the stabbing victim and his assailant had knives at the time of the incident. A long-bladed knife could be seen lying in the street.

According to acting Insp. Jerry Nash, a woman known to the man was possibly involved in the slashing.

No arrests were made as police continue to search for a female suspect.

A tenant of a nearby building, Baljit Grewal, told the Edmonton Sun the man was in his early 60s. Grewal rushed outside when he heard emergency vehicle sirens.

"We were comforting him by telling him it was all right and he went out and grabbed my hand and said, 'Am I gonna live? Am I gonna see you again?' "

As Grewal tried to calm the injured man, he claimed he was told the name of the woman who slashed him.

The man suffered two knife wounds, from the ear to the throat. "One was very deep," Grewal said. "He was bleeding from head to toe."

The attack took place three blocks from where a woman was shot by police responding to a landlord-tenant dispute the previous day. A woman brandishing a knife was shot as she approached officers in a "threatening manner."

The Windsor Arms apartment building itself was the scene of Edmonton's 32nd murder of 2005.

40-year-old Ronald Edward Funk was stabbed to death in suite 306 on October 30th. Dawn Agnes McGilvery, 30, was charged with second-degree murder.
