An ex-boyfriend, a concerned family member and a knife made for a deadly mix outside a central Edmonton apartment building.

Paramedics were called to 9115 106A Avenue at about 1 a.m. to attend to a man who had been repeatedly stabbed. It seems a man had shown up with his cousin to confront his ex-girfriend, Jo-Anne Lundy-Allen and her common-law husband, David Gross.

The girl's cousin, Tony Tom, decided to step in. A fight broke out, Tom was stabbed in the chest and neck and he died an hour later in hospital.

A search by the canine unit led police to two males who were taken in for questioning. They were initially described as "persons of interest." Later in the day police announced that charges had been laid.

All those involved in the case gave numerous interviews with local media -- all with different recollections of the event.

It seems all had attended a house party nearby and that Lundy-Allen's aggressiveness towards her former boyfriend precipitated the altercation.

Jamie Garth Hunt, 23, faces second-degree murder and possession of a weapon charges in Edmonton's second homicide of the year. An autopsy showed that Tom died from multiple knife wounds.
