deadmonton - thomas george svekla - 2006 threats

On February 18th, 2006 threatening messages were left on a telephone answering machine. The victim contacted RCMP and Thomas Svekla was charged.

Court heard Svekla left a death threat on the telephone answering machine of the victim just after midnight on the 18th.

“Leave Diane alone or you're fucking dead,” said the message.

Two days later, Svekla left a second message: “Hey, fuck off if you know what's good to you.”

There was no mention of who Diane was.

Svekla pleaded guilty to uttering death threats. In exchange, a charge of assault with a weapon was withdrawn.

On October 2nd, 2006 Svekla was sentenced 30 days in jail.

However, Judge Darlene Wong deemed the sentence had already been deemed served due to Svekla having been in custody since his May 2006 arrest.
