On August 31st, 2006 with a seeming wink in his eye, Thomas Svekla was again before cameras but on a much smaller stage – a court room in High Level to answer to a simple assault charge.

While the sentence was minor – one day in jail – it came with a surprise condition: Svekla was to provide a DNA sample.

"The accused is subject to a DNA order," stated Project KARE's lead prosecutor, Clifton Purvis, when asked by the judge.

The charge Svekla was sentenced for stemmed from an attack on a High Level woman on October 13th, 2005.

Svekla had been drinking when he got into an argument with Marcia Chambaud during a party at a motel. He later pushed her against a wall and punched her on the head.

While others pulled Svekla off, Chambaud's cousin, Trevor Auger, beat Svekla.

Dressed in prison coveralls and shackled in handcuffs, Svekla looked at ease in court and repeatedly scanned the public gallery as the judge gave him one day in jail for the assault, crediting him for 45 days already served earlier on the charge.
