On July 5th, 2007 police continued to lay charges against the man already accused of murdering two prostitutes and sexually assaulting and threatening to kill another woman.

Thomas George Svekla

Thomas Svekla appeared in provincial court and was charged with sexually assaulting and sexually interfering with a girl under the age of 14.

The incident occurred at or near Edmonton between May 30th and December 28th, 1995.

According to documents filed in court, Svekla allegedly interfered with the girl by touching her body with his mouth. Not indicated was how young the girl was at the time of the assault.

The girl was not identified due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Svekla remained in custody at the maximum-security Edmonton Institution.

Thomas Svekla appeared in court on July 12th, 2007 and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges. He also chose to be tried by judge alone.

A preliminary hearing on the charges was to begin January 18th, 2008. The court date was late set over to September 22nd, 2008.

In May 2000, Svekla was sentenced to 27 months for sexual assault on a female under the age of 14 in a Peace River court. He was also convicted for assaulting his wife, a charge arising out of the couple's bitter divorce.
