Omar Mohamed Abdalla, 19, was shot to death on February 12th, 2006.
Abdalla was Edmonton's fourth homicide victim of the year.
Case status remains open and active.
On February 12th, 2006, police received a 911 call reporting gunshots heard inside the Palmont Place apartment building at 10823 115 Street.
Arriving officers found a man inside Suite 9 on the second floor of the three-storey walk-up suffering a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Police wouldn't say if he was the occupant of the suite or just a visitor. Initial reports indicated investigators felt they had identified the victim but police later stated his identity was uncertain.
A neighbour told media she saw four dark-skinned men enter the building shortly before police arrived. Other witnesses reported seeing three black men fleeing the scene.
Police later said they were seeking three black males, describing two of them as tall and skinny and one on the chubby side. At least two of them were believed to be armed with handguns.
Homicide detectives were assisted by the police gang unit but didn't say the death was gang-related while not ruling out gang involvement.

Edmonton's fourth murder victim of the year was identified as Omar Mohamed Abdalla. The medical examiner determined he died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Abdalla had moved to the city from Ottawa to find work five months before he was killed. A cousin said Abdalla arrived in Canada from Somalia when he was about 10 years old.
Investigators made little progress in the case, and in March 2010 the Edmonton Police Commission approved a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Abdalla's death.

While it wasn't known at the time, the February 2006 death of Omar Mohamed Abdalla became part of a still-growing list of men from Somalia and the Horn of Africa to have lost their lives working and living in Alberta.
