One day I got a tip from a woman who described herself as an acquaintance of both Liana and Michael White.

She told me that Michael did some repairs to her car, barely charging her enough to cover the cost of the parts.

She also revealed she'd gone to Liana and Michael's house (on Warwick Crescent) for a meal.

But getting to the White house wasn't easy.

She said Liana gave her directions. She wrote them down on a piece of paper and left it in her glove compartment.

Sometime before Liana was taken, the woman said her car was stolen. Police recovered her vehicle and she got it back.

She said only one thing was missing from her car: the directions to Liana and Michael's house.

After Liana's body was found, the woman said she called EPS detectives about the possible lead – the directions to Liana's house that had been stolen from her car.

However, she says the message she got from detectives was that they didn't need the information because they'd already found their man.

I asked the woman how Liana and Michael got along. She said "fine."

I also asked if she noticed any disagreements between the two.

She said there was one: Liana and Michael couldn't agree on how much milk Ashley should have with her meal.

I still refused to take a position on whether White was a killer or a victim.

For the most part, my get-togethers with Michael White were cordial. We had our differences but we dealt with them and moved on.

In early December 2005, White asked if I would do him a favour. His daughter was staying nearby with her maternal grandmother and he wanted me to deliver a Christmas present to her.

Couldn't do it, I said.

According to his bail conditions, White was not to have any contact with his mother-in-law, Maureen Kelly. That's because Kelly was a witness at his murder trial.

I told White someone else would have to do it.

I don't know if Ashley ever got her father's present.

Michael White would not give up trying to have contact with his daughter – including spending money on a lawyer to fight for visiting rights.

The two haven't met since he was charged in July 2005.
