Michael White filed an appeal of his second-degree murder conviction for killing his pregnant wife Liana. He also sought to amend the terms of his parole eligibility which was set at 17 years.
White, serving a life sentence, was seeking to take his case to the Alberta Court of Appeal.

In a hand-written notice of appeal received by the courts on January 11th, White wrote that the trial evidence didn't support a conviction and asked that the time he had to serve before he was eligible for parole be reduced.

He also complained that it was improper for evidence of his military record to have been introduced in court.
No defence lawyer was listed on the appeal file.
The case was set to go before Alberta's top court in February 2007 to discuss preliminary matters.
No date for a hearing was set.
News of White's appeal wasn't made public until March 29th, 2007.
