A quiet street in an upscale neighbourhood on a cold winter night was the scene of Edmonton's 36th homicide of the year. As was the case in the metro area's most recent four murders, the victim was young.

City homicide detectives and the gang unit were called out to an apartment building parking lot at 5314 Riverbend Road just after 7:00 p.m.

Benson Tak Kay Lee was found lying on the pavement beside his white pickup truck, a spreading pool of blood trickling out of his head.

Witnesses interviewed by local media reported hearing several gunshots and a lone male was seen fleeing on foot eastbound from the area.

A police dog led detectives through the Riverbend junior high school yard where the trail suddenly ended. Police suspected the gunman made off in a waiting vehicle. Contrary to earlier media reports a weapon was not recovered.

According to neighbours, the Breton Manor Apartment building received a visit from the Edmonton Police Service Tactical Team once over the summer. Lee did not live in the complex but was a frequent visitor.

An autopsy report revealed that Lee died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police stated the shooting wasn't random but didn't have any leads in the case. There were no indications that Lee himself had any gang ties.

Police are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation and are urging citizens with information to contact them at 780-423-4567 or at www.tipsubmit.com.
