Anthony Littlebear Desmoulin was released from the Ft. Saskatchewan Correctional Centre on June 10th after serving 488 days for manslaughter, assaulting a peace officer, causing a disturbance, two counts of failing to appear and being intoxicated in a public place.
Detective Wil Tonowski of the Edmonton Police Service high-risk offender unit said, “One of the things that disturbs us most is Desmoulin’s lack of remorse, shame in an incident like this. His behaviour in the institution was poor.”
Tonowski added Desmoulin was fighting, not following the rules and not receiving any treatment for anger and violence.
Desmoulin's manslaughter charge stemmed from an incident that took place June 7th, 2004 in front of the Stanley A. Milner Library.
At his trial court heard Desmoulin was begging for money and approached Mustafa Mohammad, then 30. Mohammad told Desmoulin to "f--- off" and the two engaged in a fight.
When Mohammad bent over to pick up his keys, Desmoulin -- who was wearing steel-toed work boots -- kicked him in the head.

Under a Section 810 order, Desmoulin must abide by the conditions of a peace bond or face being jailed. Stevens-Guille set the amount of the bond, which lasts for one year, at $500.
Since his release from jail, police said Desmoulin was getting into fights behind bars, not following rules and not taking any treatment for anger and violence.
Crown prosecutor Allison Downey said Desmoulin suffers from atypical fetal alcohol syndrome and has been diagnosed with an oppositional defiance disorder.
Defence lawyer Laurie Wood said Desmoulin, who is currently living at the Herb Jamieson Centre, was not happy with the peace bond. Desmoulin said he would abide by the conditions and has already reported to police without problem.
Desmoulin told the judge he understands the conditions but is concerned about the ban on drugs and booze.
