Police continue to investigate Edmonton's 21st homicide of 2011 after an apparent altercation along the Avenue of Nations left a man dead.
At about 2:00 a.m. May 16th, 2011, a fight broke out between several men near 106th Avenue and 103rd Street just north of downtown. A man's body was found lying in the road when emergency services arrived.

Perry Kit Wong, 72, and Eloise Fendelet, 71, were last seen separately on December 27th, 2010. Their bodies were found lying side-by-side in a field west of Edmonton on April 13th, 2011.
The Wong-Fendelet double murder investigation began as a missing persons case on January 18th after friends reported the couple's disappearance. On March 23rd, homicide detectives took the matter on.

On March 31st, 2011, groundskeepers at a city-owned golf course discovered a woman's body in an area not accessible by vehicles. She was identified two weeks later after an appeal to the public.

For the second time in 2011, a police shooting left a man dead and actions by officers under review by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
Late March 30th, 2011, a complaint came in of a distraught man in the city's west end. According to police, 38-year-old Kinling Robin Fire emerged from his vehicle and threatened officers with a weapon.
When Fire ignored orders to drop the weapon, one officer shot twice. Fire later died in hospital.

The discovery of a body in a snowbank sparked the investigation into Edmonton's fourth homicide of 2011.
Officers first arrived at a house at 11413 82 Street around 5:00 a.m. January 28th after a 911 call came in about a disturbance. That led them to the alley where they found several pieces of clothing on a snowbank with a pair of black winter boots sticking out of it ... and that prompted the calling out of homicide detectives.

Strathcona County RCMP continue have a mystery on their hands: two dead bodies and one missing man.
On December 19th, 2010, at about 3:40 a.m., Strathcona County Emergency Services and the RCMP dealt with a Quonset fire south of Township Road 524 at Range Road 213 in eastern Strathcona County.

Edmonton police made history when they laid twelve charges against six men at the same time in connection with two separate homicide cases.
On September 4th, 2010, 23-year-old Jesse Lee James was shot in broad daylight in a townhouse parking lot on Saddleback Road. Nine days later, 19-year-old Emmanuel Amoah's remains were found in south-east Edmonton.
James was a known drug dealer. Amoah appeared to be just a missing high school student.

A gunshot was heard shortly after police arrived and an emergency response team was brought in. The bodies of Corrine Sellhorn and her husband Ron Jones were later found on the property – victims of a murder-suicide.

Thomas Joseph Shaughnessy, 46, and Thomas Robert Howells, 40, who had both been reported missing from central Alberta a month earlier, were identified as the victims of a double homicide.

Police have made arrests in connection with Edmonton's seventeenth homicide of 2010 after 23-year-old James Lee Catholique was found lying in a pool of blood behind a building at 10010 107A Avenue, just north of downtown.
At about 6:18 p.m. August 26th, 2010, a person rushed into the Brick furniture store asking staff to call 911 to report "some kind of disturbance." Emergency services arrived and Catholique, having suffered severe head trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the death of 18-year-old Zachariah Thompson.
At about 6:30 p.m. August 19th, 2010, emergency services responded to reports of gunfire at 16 Meadow Crescent in the Maple Ridge mobile home park, near 17th Street and 63rd Avenue. Thompson was rushed to hospital where he remained in critical condition. Homicide detectives were immediately brought in to investigate.

On June 20th, 2010, an explosion inside a house at 18011 91 A Street took the lives of four people and ripped a neighbourhood apart – literally.
While the cause of the blast had yet to be determined, police declared that three people died as the result of a homicidal act.
Jeanne Cathleen Heard, 47, Craig Donald Huber, 29, and Bradley Warren Winter, 26, died in the explosion. Huber and Winter happened to be in house beside the home that blew up and died of blast-related injuries.

About a half-hour later police were called back to the suite – this time about a report of an assault causing bodily harm.

Police investigated Edmonton's eighth homicide of 2010 after a man was stabbed defending friends.
At about 1:00 a.m., June 6th, two men left a house party at multi-unit dwelling at 9849 80 Avenue and were on their way to a nearby convenience store when they ran into a group of five or six males.
A confrontation took place, and as they were returning to the house party the two men were attacked. It was then that 37-year-old Apichat Sudsaneh witnessed the assault, stepped in, and was stabbed. He died in hospital.

At about 10:20 p.m. May 21st, 2010, officers responded to a report of shots fired. When police arrived they found Thurier lying face down and suffering significant head trauma. She was pronounced her dead at the scene. Early reports indicate a sawed-off shotgun was used.

Police waited over two weeks for word from the medical examiner to learn the death of a four-year-old girl was criminal in nature. They then laid a charge of second-degree murder against the child's aunt.

On September 5th, 2008 Fabian DeLorme, 44, was assaulted in front of the Marian Centre at 10528 98 Street by three men armed with golf clubs. DeLorme was taken to hospital with what were initially believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

On June 5th, 2008 Strathcona County RCMP received a call from a homeowner whose dog uncovered a human skull in a yard in the Belvedere Heights subdivision near Range Road 231 and Township Road 514, south of Sherwood Park. A further search of the property led to an entire skeleton being found.
An autopsy was completed and RCMP said the remains were that of a female, approximately 25 to 50 years of age, and possibly of Asian or aboriginal descent.

On May 30th, 2008 Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a call around 2:00 p.m. from a farmer who found human remains in a wooded area near the Skaro Shrine, along Township Road 192 near the intersection of Highways 45 and 831.
Thinking the smell might be coming from a dead animal, the farmer followed it into some bushes beside the field. Police soon confirmed a homicide investigation was underway and that two bodies were involved.

A man opening his front door to pick up the morning paper saw himself looking at next-day headlines when he found a dying man lying near the porch of his house near 111th Street and University Avenue at about 7:15 a.m. on April 26th, 2008.

A 49-year-old woman was found lying face down in the snow in front of her condominium at 1828 Lakewood Road South at about 12:13 a.m. February 29th, 2008. For the next 24 hours police weren't sure if they were dealing with a suspicious death or Edmonton's latest murder.
After receiving treatment by paramedics at the scene, the woman was rushed to the Grey Nuns hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Crime scene tape was put up, taken down and later put up again.
Investigators continued to class the woman's death as suspicious until later on March 1st when they confirmed the case of Beverly Parker as a homicide, citing strangulation as the cause of her death.

Early May 27th, 2007 RCMP were called out to a weekend-long house party northwest of Stony Plain. When officers arrived they found an unconscious male at the scene suffering massive head injuries. Four days later the man's family made the decision to withdraw life support.

Police continue to investigate what may ultimately become Edmonton's sixteenth homicide of 2007.
North Division officers responded to a strip mall parking lot on 144th Avenue and 76th Street at 5:40 a.m. on May 8th, 2007. Reports had come in that several males were involved in an assault. A Honda CRX had run over an injured male who was lying on the ground.
The injured male was taken to hospital where he remained with serious and life threatening injuries. On May 22nd, 2007 the man died. The medical examiner determined that 27-year-old Martin William Kent succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.

At about 10:00 p.m. on May 24th, 2007 a passerby found a 21-year-old man lying beside a car on a surface parking lot at 96th Street and 102nd Avenue. The man was suffering multiple stab wounds and was quickly transported by paramedics. He died shortly afterwards on an operating table undergoing emergency surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
An autopsy confirmed that 21-year-old Leonard Fred Halkett of Saskatchewan died from multiple stab wounds. He was Edmonton's fifteenth homicide of 2007.

Standing 6-feet 7-inches and sporting wild wavy hair, Mahamud Yassin Yusuf would have been hard to miss. The former Ottawa resident had recently moved to Edmonton where he was known on the street by various names.

Just before 4:00 p.m. on May 6th, 2007 a report of shots fired brought officers to the Urban Stylez clothing store at the corner of 107th Avenue and 110th Street.
Once police entered the store they found a man face down on the floor. He had been shot numerous times and was pronounced dead. Officers also found three men who had been duct-taped and tied up.

Homicide detectives were called out after a man's body was found inside a residence at 7508 Delwood Road just before 9:00 a.m. April 27th, 2007.
A police spokesman couldn't confirm the age of the individual, but the Edmonton Sun spoke to neighbours who said police told them the man was 39 years old.
Those neighbours also told the Sun the house was a home for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts.

Officers and emergency medical personnel were called to a house at 11321 91 Street at about 3:00 p.m. April 19th, 2007.

Just before noon on April 7th, 2007 emergency medical personnel were called to the Newton Place apartment block at 5608 118 Avenue.
There they picked up a 19-year-old woman and transported her to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. She died shortly after arriving at the facility and police were called.
Police remained at the apartment unit throughout the day and several persons were taken in for questioning. "It just didn't look quite right, so they gave us a call," said homicide Det. Brian Robertson.

On the evening of April 6th, 2007 a man and some of his friends were walking near 42nd Avenue and 38th Street at about 10:00 p.m. when they came across an injured man lying on the sidewalk. Nearby, an empty Co-op cab was running.
Police and emergency medical personnel arrived and quickly determined the 61-year-old man was the cab's driver and he had been beaten by his fare. Within 35 minutes a man approached one of the police cars and got into the back seat.
Unknown to police at the time, the body of Stephanie Rae Butler lay dead inside her house. She was discovered by her father the next day when Stephanie's husband Michael asked the man to check on her welfare.

81-year-old Kenneth Thomas Myatt left his southside condo near 78th Avenue and 108th Street at about 6:30 a.m. on April 1st, 2007 and hasn't been seen since.

Edmonton police closed off a section of Manning Drive northbound after responding to a call that a man's body had been found just north of 167th Avenue. The discovery was made just before 2:00 p.m. on March 25th, 2007 by a group of people who noticed the body lying several metres west of the roadway.

A man returning to his home at 11202 95 A Street at about 6:30 a.m. on March 20th, 2007 found his roommate tied up and dead. A 911 call from inside the home brought Emergency Medical Services.
Paramedics attending the scene thought the circumstances were suspicious and they called police. First officers on the scene then called homicide detectives and the house was turned over to a forsensics team.
A source told the Edmonton Sun that investigators were looking into the possibility that the man may have died accidentally on his own. Police did not give any details about the state of the body and also did not comment on early media reports the man was found "tied up."

Receding snow in an Edmonton nature area revealed the body of a dead man on March 18th, 2007.
Several people walking their dogs at about 2:45 p.m. along Whitemud Creek, about a kilometre south of the Snow Valley ski facility, came across a body partially buried in the snow.
Police were called to the scene and Acting Sgt. Curtis Rind said the man appeared to be a transient in his fifties.

Officers arrived at the Laurier Manor four-storey walkup at 12015 103 Avenue at about 6:00 p.m. on February 26th, 2007 after reports of a gunshot blast and a man found bleeding in a stairwell came in.
A 44-year-old man was removed from the building by police tactical team members. He was taken in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he died a short time later.
A 48-year-old man held police at bay while holed up in a fourth floor suite and armed with a shotgun. Police requested a media blackout on the shot man's condition as they negotiated with the shooter by telephone overnight.

His dismembered body was discovered after police investigated the second of two noise complaints – three hours apart – shortly after midnight on February 21st, 2007.
Police were first called to the Boardwalk Centre apartment building at 8820 Jasper Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. the night before. A 15th-floor tenant had called authorities to report she heard a man who sounded like he was in agony.

A 31-year-old man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Trauma Centre. 31-year-old Chancely Devlin Simpson died several hours later after being taken off life support.
Three weeks later police announced they had issued a warrant for 25-year-old Clinton Wabasca – charged with second-degree murder in connection with Simpson's death.
Police caught up with Wabasca on April 3rd when sharp-eyed patrol officers spotted a man riding a bike at 3:00 a.m. on an unseasonably cold day. In Wabasca's possession were three knives, one of which was hidden in his boot.

On February 11th, 2007 the Edmonton Sun reported that a group of Calgarians planned to appear at the murder trial of Michael Briscoe and Joseph Laboucan as part of their effort to lobby the federal government to reinstate the death penalty. Briscoe and Laboucan were charged with first-degree murder in the death of Nina Courtepatte.
The occasion marked the first instance in recent time that the issue of capital punishment was raised in connection with Edmonton's murder problem. Interviewed by the Sun, Merle Terlesky said he represented a citizen group who felt that anyone capable of such a "horrendous" crime as Nina's murder should be punished accordingly.

On January 26th, 2007 Emergency Medical Services were called to a west end home after a call came in reporting a small child was suffering respiratory distress. A three-year-old boy showed obvious signs of severe head trauma and was rushed to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
Police took a 32-year-old woman into custody at the scene, charging her with counts of aggravated assault, duty of persons to provide necessaries [failure to provide the necessities of life] and child abandonment.

On January 19th, 2007 Strathcona County RCMP responded to a 911 call of a body lying on the side of the road near the intersection of Lake Vista Drive and Lake Vista Crescent in the Lakeland Village Trailer Park. The body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy indicated the "clear cause of death” was the result of homicide.
RCMP later identified the man as being 21-year-old David Kelm, the stepson of an Edmonton city police officer.
Strathcona RCMP announced they had charged a 28-year-old Edmonton man with first-degree murder in connection with Kelm's death. An Alberta-wide warrant was issued for James Harold Stewart.

Police and ambulance services were called to a home on the Enoch Cree Nation reserve, just west of Edmonton, on January 13th, 2007. Paramedics found a woman with a single gunshot wound to the upper body. She was transported to Edmonton's Misericordia Hospital where she later died of her injuries.
RCMP announced they were seeking two suspects in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Barbara Ann Matthews.
