Purpose

Readers should be prepared to be exposed to a wide variety of topics and ideas as selected by the site's author who is solely responsible for the content, views and opinions expressed unless otherwise indicated.

Site conventions

With the advent of tabbed internet browsing, Last Link on the Left philosophy regarding link opening has evolved on a 'go forward' basis (ie. when new pages are created or old pages are revised).

Most links contained within a paragraph open in a new window or tab depending on your browser's settings (as do links indicated » like this »). Links indicated – like this » add text content to the current page.

Most links contained within a list open within the same window or tab except where noted or as indicated when you 'mouse hover' (position and hold your browser pointer) over a link.

To purposely open links in a new window or tab, right click on the link and select "Open in New Window or Tab."

To return to the top of a page, press the Home button on your keyboard or use the Top of page link found at the bottom of most pages. To return to a page you previously viewed on this site, click the Back button of your browser or press Alt + Left Arrow.

Permalinks

Yes, we've got one – and in two flavours: simple and really detailed (as always, use your own discretion and your own mileage may vary).

Why is this called the Last Link on the Left?

Things left have always had a negative connotation (being wrong, improper, backward, unusual, fore-boding and even evil). It goes back to Greek times and it's not an indication of political viewpoint.

A common reference in popular culture (The Last House on the Left, The Last Drive-in on the Left) The Last Link on the Left seemed an apt place to put the things that don't belong anywhere else. If you're not looking for anything in particular you'll be sure to find it here.

The Last Link on the Left would like to thank, among many others, the boys of Invisible Services at the TIO (Three Initial Organisation) for all their tips, tricks and tips of the hat. In addition, the Last Link thanks the Disney Girl for her extensive coding help and exquisite batch files :)

Huh?

Here at the Last Link we've been accused of being a little too oblique or obscure in some of our references. This page has been designed to try and explain ourselves.

Web 1.0 or Web 2.0?

Back in 1893, when the internet began, most sites were "Web 1.0" – static and hierarchical collections of web pages created by enthusiasts. Since about 2004, the web has become a haven for social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies – collectively termed Web 2.0.

The Last Link on the Left officially positions itself as Web 1.63 – and don't talk to us about Web 3.0. One thing for certain: this site AIN'T no blog.
